COUNSELLING · COFFS HARBOUR

Some things are easier to carry once they're said out loud.

I'm Michael Gregory, a registered counsellor in Coffs Harbour. Much of my work is with men — through relationships, trauma, faith and the seasons of life that feel heavier than they should — and I also see couples. Face to face, plain spoken, no judgement.

IF YOU'VE BEEN HOLDING IT TOGETHER FOR A LONG TIME

You don't have to keep carrying it on your own.

Maybe things at home aren't what they used to be. Maybe there's a weight from the job — the calls, the scenes, the things you can't unsee. Maybe your faith feels complicated, or you simply can't find the words for what's wrong.

You've probably told yourself you should be able to manage this on your own. A lot of men do, for years. Reaching out doesn't mean you've failed at handling it — it means you've decided to stop handling it alone.

01

Understood

Talk to someone who has spent his career around people in their hardest moments — and who listens without judging.

02

Safe

A private, unhurried space where what you say stays between us, and you set the pace.

03

A way forward

Practical, honest support aimed at clearer choices, steadier days and a more positive outlook.

HOW I HELP

Real support for the things we carry quietly.

Whatever's brought you here, you won't be rushed and you won't be judged. These are the areas I work in most.

Heart

Relationships & marriage

Conflict, distance, communication and intimacy — including sex and the private matters that can be hardest to raise. Whether you come on your own or as a couple, it's a safe place to talk.

Clock

PTSD & trauma

Steady, informed support for first responders and Defence personnel living with the things the job leaves behind.

Shield

Men's wellbeing

Stress, low mood, anger, purpose and the pressure to "just get on with it". A place to put it down and look at it honestly.

People

Family

Parenting, separation, blended families and the relationships that shape everyday life.

Cross

Faith struggles

Doubt, disappointment or a faith that feels distant. A space to explore it honestly — at your pace, and only if you want to.

Headphones

Not sure where to start?

That's completely normal. We can talk it through together and work out what would help most.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A first session, simply.

There's no script and no rush. We start where you are. You talk as much or as little as feels right, and together we get a sense of what's going on and where you'd like to head.

My approach is grounded, practical and tailored to you. Depending on what you need, that might draw on:

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Acceptance & Commitment

Solution Focused Therapy

Person Centred

Christian Counselling*

*Offered if it's something you'd like — see about the name below.

How a session runs

Number 1

We sit down together — around 60 minutes, with a few minutes for admin and roughly 50 minutes of counselling.

Number 2

You share what's on your mind. I listen, ask questions, and we make sense of it together.

Number 3

We look at small, practical steps — at a pace that works for you. There's no session limit and no pressure to keep coming.

B Letter

efore I trained as a counsellor, I spent 25 years on the frontline of healthcare, providing pre-hospital

emergency care across a wide range of communities. I've sat with people on some of the worst days of their lives — and that work gave me a deep respect for what people carry, and what it takes to keep going.

Over those years I developed a real passion for mental health, and a desire to help people make better choices and take a fuller part in their own lives. So I retrained. Counselling lets me do the part of that earlier work I valued most: being genuinely present for someone, and helping them find a way through.

I've also served as an officer in the Royal Australian Air Force, so I understand the particular weight carried by those in the services and emergency response — and how hard it can be to set that weight down. My aim is simple: to help you reconnect with your strengths, work through what's in the way, and move forward with more confidence, self-awareness and resilience.

Rhema Counselling is available to adult clients. If what you're facing falls outside my scope, I'll help connect you with someone whose skills are the right fit for your ongoing care.

RHEMA · GREEK: THE SPOKEN WORD

About the name

"The right word, at the right moment."

Rhema is a Greek word for the spoken word — the right word, spoken at the right time. It's the idea at the heart of how I work: that being truly heard, and finding the words that land when you need them most, can change things.

It's also there in the mark above. Two sets of waves: one speaks to the relationship between a person and others, the other to the relationship between a person and God. Together they hold the heart of this work — being heard, and not being alone in it.

A note on faith — and an open door

My counselling is grounded in my Christian faith. That's the foundation I bring to this work, and I'm happy to be open about it.

How much faith shapes our sessions, though, is entirely your call. If it matters to you, we can make Christian counselling part of what we do together. If it's not part of your life, that's completely fine — you are just as welcome, and you'll receive exactly the same care, attention and respect either way.

Everyone is welcome here, whatever you believe.
